Another season of bridal shows has come and gone! Aug 30th wrapped up the Bridal Bliss Summer Classic at the Lexington, KY Hilton downtown with more than 400 brides in attendance. This event is one of the best shows around! Over 100 wedding professionals from the Lexington area attended. From wedding cakes to catering, photographers, DJ’s, venues, dresses, tuxes… you name it. Everything you need for the perfect wedding was there. (Except a groom. You need one of those, too.)
And, of course, no wedding is complete without a bachelorette party, so Pure Romance was happy to attend the event as well! We set up a very fun booth complete with champagne, a special Pure Romance “menu,” and a few of our most popular products that were family-friendly. (Gotta keep the real fun saved for parties…)

Alright, ladies! So you’ve got your Pure Romance girls’ night reserved and now what??? It’s simple, just follow these guidelines & I’ll help you host the BEST girls’ night ever!
1) First up …. Pick a fun theme! Whether you are looking to have your guests dress up or just want to set the party mood, themes help set your Pure Romance party apart and get your guests engaged & excited.
Open some wine, bake some brownies, and – VOILA – Wine & Chocolate party! Celebrating a birthday? Your Pure Romance party is a GREAT excuse to get your girls together and spoil the birthday girl!
Or maybe you’re looking for something a bit… different?
One of my favorite themes is Wine & Wigs – nothing says ‘party’ like donning some crazy wigs! Even *I* wear one for the demo! And you’re too never old for a Pajama Party! Make a contest out of which girl wears the silliest/sexiest/craziest pj’s & order in pizza.
I provide all my hostesses with a list of ideas but feel free to come up with your own themes!
2) Create your guest list!
The most successful parties have at least 10 – 12 women in attendance. In addition, invite about 20 other women since only one third of invited guests will usually attend. Can’t think of who you know? Fill out my form of 40 Guests in 4 Minutes to help! Ask your guests to bring friends (the more, the merrier!) for bonus entries to WIN PRIZES at the party!
3) Use invitations!
Social media is easy buuuuuuut….TRUST ME, if you want friends partying with you, CALL to personally invite & send them a paper or email invitation. Just send me your address list and I’ll gladly mail & email invites for you! Facebook has its place – and I do use it for party events – but the majority of your guests will never see the notifications so contact them *directly* to be sure they’re in the know about your upcoming girls’ event!
4) Outside orders

That’s it. I QUIT! No, wait, not my awesome Pure Romance job… the job I was doing before. You know, the 40-50 hour/week office type job. I was tired of working overtime and sacrificing life outside of the job just to make money for someone else. I was ready to work for ME. You hear it all of the time, but the benefits of owning your own business are real. I wanted to experience life and to be a success because I chose to be, not because someone else thought I was worthy. I took the plunge to work for myself with Pure Romance. Maybe you should too… Here are my top ten reasons why starting your own business is worth it.
#1 I am in control of my own destiny.
You could say that I am a type “A” personality. A lot of people who start a business are. I was tired of having my level of success being directed by someone else. I was frustrated working in an environment where the culture and future of the company was not in my control. People rely on their incomes for stability, and that stability makes a difference in their happiness at home. By making my own decisions about how best to operate day-to-day, I choose the office culture and direct the future of my business. Nobody else gets to decide how my career and income will advance.
#2 You can find your own Work/Life balance.
One of the perks of owning your own home-based business is the flexibility that comes with it, whether that be working from wherever you want, working in your pjs, etc. I love the summer days here in Lexington, Kentucky and enjoy sitting with my laptop and phone on the back porch, sipping some tea and watching my dog run around the yard. I make my own schedule, allowing me the time to enjoy some of the most important things in life!
#3 You get to choose who you work with.
Owning a business isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I’m not claiming that. I like surrounding myself with positive people who give me the confidence and optimism needed to keep moving forward. You have to weed out the people that put out negative vibes. I’m always looking for women who are self-starters with a hunger for success. #4 You reap the benefits of risks and effort.
With most businesses, there will be risks and rewards. And as you know, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward… or potential for negative consequences. The beauty of the being your own boss is that you are the one that gets to choose the amount and type of wager. With what I do with Pure Romance, the risk is actually VERY minimal. The startup cost can be recouped within a very short amount of time. I’m talking 1 to 3 parties, that’s it! As long as I put in the effort and hustle, the money comes in. How much effort/reward I get is totally up to me. PLUS, I have a ton of fun doing this job which is a HUGE reward in itself.
#5 You get to challenge yourself.
Are you tired of the same old routine? I rarely experience the same type of day twice. Between a constant rotation of new clients, and new experiences with existing ones, my job never gets old. Every day I learn something new. Whether it’s about a product, or my customers, or about running my business more efficiently, the challenge of continuously working to make myself better never ends. When I quit my regular job to run my own Pure Romance business, one of the main reasons I did so was to have more TIME. Time to spend with my family. Time to enjoy my hobbies. There are few things that get entrepreneurs as excited as when they get to interact with their customers. Rather than hiding behind a large corporate structure, small business owners thrive on dealing one-on-one with their best clients. And let’s face it, my customers are always happy to see me! When I show up, the Girls’ Night begins! Who doesn’t want that in their life?
#9 You get to give back to your community.
Many businesses give back to the communities that support them. This can be in the form of donations, events, etc… But for me and my business, it’s EDUCATION and HEALTH SUPPORT for women. Pure Romance works closely with The Patty Brisben Foundation for Women’s Sexual Health. Together we seek to support research and education initiatives that involve women’s sexual health and well-being. Being able to educate women about their own bodies presents the opportunity for empowerment and guides them down the path of more confident and fulfilling intimate relationships.
#10 You feel pride in building something on your own.
This business is yours. Nobody handed it to you. Sure, there is help along the way but the success of it is up to you. You are the boss. You are the most valuable asset and the driving force behind the business. But the best feeling? When you get those comment cards with nice remarks about how good you are at what you do. Or even better, when a client tells all of their friends about you and brags about your success. THAT is a great feeling!
Is it just me, or has women’s sexuality been directly in the mainstream lately? From the transformation of Caitlyn Jenner, to Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike, to shows like Girl Code on MTV… it seems that anywhere you look, female sexuality is everywhere. Inescapable. But is that a bad thing? Or is it about time that pop culture and the media recognize that women’s sexuality is a healthy subject and that women deserve pleasure?
You can probably guess where I stand on the issue. As a Senior Consultant for Pure Romance, I have the honor of discussing female sexuality on a regular basis. Be it here in Lexington, KY, or in the surrounding cities in which I travel for in-home parties or consultant training. I think that the more human sexuality is discussed, the better. There has always been a considerable imbalance in what the mainstream media has created for the different sexes. Now the lines are beginning to blur a bit. The mainstream is realizing that women are empowered and that a MAJOR market is there, ready to be tapped. (No pun intended, HA!)
Films such as Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike XXL are geared almost exclusively towards women. If you haven’t seen either of these movies, you are missing out! There aren’t many films out there that so unabashedly celebrate the desires of women. I saw Magic Mike XXL in a private viewing before the national release with about 300 other women. It was an AMAZING experience. The overarching messaging was: You deserve to be catered to. These men are here for you. We know what you want and can deliver it.
I’m not going to lie to you, this explosion in media directed towards women’s desires has been great for business. Like, amazingly good for business. I used to work a full-time high-pressure job as a project manager for a large advertising firm. I quit that job to work for myself as a Pure Romance consultant. I work when I want, as much as I want, and earn as much as I want. And I cannot wait for more movies and more sequels directed towards women. KEEP EM’ COMING! (Again, no pun intended.)
