Strong Women – Meet Molly

Strong is the new sexy. Don’t take my word for it. Just take a look around… Crossfit women are a main attraction on major sports networks, Serena Williams (tennis pro) is named 2016 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the year, and Ronda Rousey (UFC Fighter) is set to make her second appearance in SI’s Swimsuit Issue. What do these women have in common? They are all examples of women who are successful, beautiful… and not necessarily the physical ideal of sexiness that mainstream media normally pushes into our heads.

Meet Molly. She is a local Lexington woman who has gone viral by making some social media posts about her body and how she feels about it. I sort of know Molly, but she doesn’t know me. I’ve seen her at the gym (Lexington Athletic Club) and around my neighborhood out for a run with her significant other. She’s hard to miss. She has a very strong physique and a confidence about her that impresses. Molly posted a picture of herself in a bikini on vacation with the caption “This is my body. This is not a before picture. This is not an after picture. This just happens to be what my body looks like on a random Tuesday in December of 2015 — it’s a life picture. This is a body that loves protein and vegetables and queso and ice cream.”

…And the internet went BONKERS. This photo and accompanying quote has made it to ABC News, People magazine, Huffington Post, and even the Today Show. She is comfortable with the fact her body changes as she moves through life. And she is happy with that. She loves who she is and her confidence is proof of that.

Is she what the mainstream media would call “sexiest woman alive?” Probably not. But that’s not the point. She is beautiful in a real way, a way that can be appreciated by anyone who has the luck to meet her or take one of her classes. She has a personal training business, Girlsgonestrong.com, which offers strength training packages and an online coaching. Her business works to teach girls to appreciate their bodies as they are, not as most magazine ads say they should be.

But what about the rest of us? Well, don’t be afraid to take charge of who you are and what you want your body to be. I work hard to eat well, exercise, and empower other women around me. It’s not always easy, but nothing worth having is. Will I ever become a supermodel? Umm, no. But knowing that I’m the best version of myself can bring a level of confidence that unleashes my inner superhero!

So congrats on your achievements, Molly! You are something that more women should aspire to be – confident, strong, and happy in your own skin!

Bridal Bliss Summer Classic

Another season of bridal shows has come and gone! Aug 30th wrapped up the Bridal Bliss Summer Classic at the Lexington, KY Hilton downtown with more than 400 brides in attendance. This event is one of the best shows around! Over 100 wedding professionals from the Lexington area attended. From wedding cakes to catering, photographers, DJ’s, venues, dresses, tuxes… you name it. Everything you need for the perfect wedding was there. (Except a groom. You need one of those, too.)

And, of course, no wedding is complete without a bachelorette party, so Pure Romance was happy to attend the event as well! 10 Reasons to Own a Business

Own your business — This is me working from a hotel room in Atlanta while traveling with my hubby!

That’s it. I QUIT! No, wait, not my awesome Pure Romance job… the job I was doing before. You know, the 40-50 hour/week office type job. I was tired of working overtime and sacrificing life outside of the job just to make money for someone else. I was ready to work for ME. You hear it all of the time, but the benefits of owning your own business are real. I wanted to experience life and to be a success because I chose to be, not because someone else thought I was worthy. I took the plunge to work for myself with Pure Romance. Maybe you should too… Here are my top ten reasons why starting your own business is worth it.

#1 I am in control of my own destiny.

You could say that I am a type “A” personality. A lot of people who start a business are. I was tired of having my level of success being directed by someone else. I was frustrated working in an environment where the culture and future of the company was not in my control. People rely on their incomes for stability, and that stability makes a difference in their happiness at home. By making my own decisions about how best to operate day-to-day, I choose the office culture and direct the future of my business. Nobody else gets to decide how my career and income will advance.

#2 You can find your own Work/Life balance.

One of the perks of owning your own home-based business is the flexibility that comes with it, whether that be working from wherever you want, working in your pjs, etc. I love the summer days here in Lexington, Kentucky and enjoy sitting with my laptop and phone on the back porch, sipping some tea and watching my dog run around the yard. I make my own schedule, allowing me the time to enjoy some of the most important things in life!

#3 You get to choose who you work with.

Owning a business isn’t the easiest thing in the world. I’m not claiming that. I like surrounding myself with positive people who give me the confidence and optimism needed to keep moving forward. You have to weed out the people that put out negative vibes. I’m always looking for women who are self-starters with a hunger for success. If you are driven and want to be your own boss, we need to talk!

#4 You reap the benefits of risks and effort.

With most businesses, there will be risks and rewards. And as you know, the bigger the risk the bigger the reward… or potential for negative consequences. The beauty of the being your own boss is that you are the one that gets to choose the amount and type of wager. With what I do with Pure Romance, the risk is actually VERY minimal. The startup cost can be recouped within a very short amount of time. I’m talking 1 to 3 parties, that’s it! As long as I put in the effort and hustle, the money comes in. How much effort/reward I get is totally up to me. PLUS, I have a ton of fun doing this job which is a HUGE reward in itself.

#5 You get to challenge yourself.

Are you tired of the same old routine? I rarely experience the same type of day twice. Between a constant rotation of new clients, and new experiences with existing ones, my job never gets old. Every day I learn something new. Whether it’s about a product, or my customers, or about running my business more efficiently, the challenge of continuously working to make myself better never ends. And once you’ve met some of the most successful women associated with Pure Romance, you realize quickly that even the sky is not the limit!

#6 You get to follow your passion.

Yup, I LOVE what I do. It’s simple. We educate, we empower, and we entertain women. The products I offer are fun and exciting, and I get to interact with great new girls every week.

When I quit my regular job to run my own Pure Romance business, one of the main reasons I did so was to have more TIME. Time to spend with my family. Time to enjoy my hobbies. #9 You get to give back to your community.

Many businesses give back to the communities that support them. This can be in the form of donations, events, etc… But for me and my business, it’s EDUCATION and HEALTH SUPPORT for women. Pure Romance works closely with The Patty Brisben Foundation for Women’s Sexual Health. Together we seek to support research and education initiatives that involve women’s sexual health and well-being. Being able to educate women about their own bodies presents the opportunity for empowerment and guides them down the path of more confident and fulfilling intimate relationships.

#10 You feel pride in building something on your own.

This business is yours. Nobody handed it to you. Sure, there is help along the way but the success of it is up to you. You are the boss. You are the most valuable asset and the driving force behind the business. But the best feeling? When you get those comment cards with nice remarks about how good you are at what you do. Or even better, when a client tells all of their friends about you and brags about your success. THAT is a great feeling!
