Kick Ass at Being Single

So now that Valentine’s Day is over, I’ve had some time to reflect on the different reactions to the holiday that I saw among friends and customers. My single friends had some widely varying responses to their thoughts on their relationship status. Many tended towards self-pity and even anger at being single, but others… oh man, they absolutely ROCKED the single lifestyle. To them, being single is “living the dream!” I liked this approach much better and decided to take a few notes to share with you about how you can kick ass at being single.

Don’t apologize for being awesome.

The basic idea about rocking your singlehood is to never apologize for your status. Your singlehood is about figuring out what makes you tick, all while enjoying the luxury of putting yourself first. Not only will this make you stronger and more confident, but once you’re tied down, you may never get the chance to live the single life dream again!

Focus on your friends.

While spending time with a significant other is amazing, it can often cut into your time with friends. Now’s your chance to take advantage of having more free time to create tons of amazing memories with some of the people you love most and not have to worry about putting stress on a romantic relationship. I love getting together with my girls for dinners, drinks, or catching a movie. Even better, get the ladies together for a Pure Romance party for an amazing girls’ night in!

Put YOU first.

I think my husband nailed this one on the head before he met me. He would come home from work, play video games all night, drink beer, and eat pizza. When he wanted to see a movie, he did. I am always amazed by two of my good friends that go on amazing adventures alone just because they can. One of them even wants to backpack around in Australia with no plans… she just wants to enjoy life as it comes!

Live your BEST life.

Dream big and plan out how you want your life to go! Satisfied with your career? Awesome—go for that amazing promotion that’ll take you to the next level. Think you might want to go back to school? Now’s your chance! Whatever it is, do something to enrich your life: enroll in art classes, give back to the community, or take up yoga.

Strong Women – Meet Molly

Strong is the new sexy. Don’t take my word for it. Just take a look around… Crossfit women are a main attraction on major sports networks, Serena Williams (tennis pro) is named 2016 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the year, and Ronda Rousey (UFC Fighter) is set to make her second appearance in SI’s Swimsuit Issue. What do these women have in common? They are all examples of women who are successful, beautiful… and not necessarily the physical ideal of sexiness that mainstream media normally pushes into our heads.

Meet Molly. She is a local Lexington woman who has gone viral by making some social media posts about her body and how she feels about it. I sort of know Molly, but she doesn’t know me. I’ve seen her at the gym (Lexington Athletic Club) and around my neighborhood out for a run with her significant other. She’s hard to miss. She has a very strong physique and a confidence about her that impresses. Molly posted a picture of herself in a bikini on vacation with the caption “This is my body. This is not a before picture. This is not an after picture. This just happens to be what my body looks like on a random Tuesday in December of 2015 — it’s a life picture. This is a body that loves protein and vegetables and queso and ice cream.”

…And the internet went BONKERS. This photo and accompanying quote has made it to ABC News, People magazine, Huffington Post, and even the Today Show. She is comfortable with the fact her body changes as she moves through life. And she is happy with that. She loves who she is and her confidence is proof of that.

Is she what the mainstream media would call “sexiest woman alive?” Probably not. But that’s not the point. She is beautiful in a real way, a way that can be appreciated by anyone who has the luck to meet her or take one of her classes. She has a personal training business, Girlsgonestrong.com, which offers strength training packages and an online coaching. Her business works to teach girls to appreciate their bodies as they are, not as most magazine ads say they should be.

But what about the rest of us? Well, don’t be afraid to take charge of who you are and what you want your body to be. I work hard to eat well, exercise, and empower other women around me. It’s not always easy, but nothing worth having is. Will I ever become a supermodel? Umm, no. But knowing that I’m the best version of myself can bring a level of confidence that unleashes my inner superhero!

So congrats on your achievements, Molly! You are something that more women should aspire to be – confident, strong, and happy in your own skin!

Embracing Women’s Sexuality

Is it just me, or has women’s sexuality been directly in the mainstream lately? From the transformation of Caitlyn Jenner, to Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike, to shows like Girl Code on MTV… it seems that anywhere you look, female sexuality is everywhere. Inescapable. But is that a bad thing? Or is it about time that pop culture and the media recognize that women’s sexuality is a healthy subject and that women deserve pleasure?

You can probably guess where I stand on the issue. As a Senior Consultant for Pure Romance, I have the honor of discussing female sexuality on a regular basis. Be it here in Lexington, KY, or in the surrounding cities in which I travel for in-home parties or consultant training. I think that the more human sexuality is discussed, the better. There has always been a considerable imbalance in what the mainstream media has created for the different sexes. Now the lines are beginning to blur a bit. The mainstream is realizing that women are empowered and that a MAJOR market is there, ready to be tapped. (No pun intended, HA!)

Films such as Fifty Shades of Grey and Magic Mike XXL are geared almost exclusively towards women. If you haven’t seen either of these movies, you are missing out! There aren’t many films out there that so unabashedly celebrate the desires of women. I saw Magic Mike XXL in a private viewing before the national release with about 300 other women. It was an AMAZING experience. The overarching messaging was: You deserve to be catered to. These men are here for you. We know what you want and can deliver it.

I’m not going to lie to you, this explosion in media directed towards women’s desires has been great for business. Like, amazingly good for business. I used to work a full-time high-pressure job as a project manager for a large advertising firm. I quit that job to work for myself as a Pure Romance consultant. I work when I want, as much as I want, and earn as much as I want. And I cannot wait for more movies and more sequels directed towards women. KEEP EM’ COMING! (Again, no pun intended.)
