Pure Romance Summer of Skin

Summer is officially here. It’s been blazin’ hot and humid here in Kentucky if you haven’t noticed. With the sun and heat come a few of my favorite things: cookouts with friends, fireflies in my backyard at dusk, lazy days at the lake… and bikini time! While all of these things are fun, the can be harsh on your skin. Don’t fret, Pure Romance has your back (or at least the skin on your back.)

Growing Old Together

An amazing video has been taking over the internet lately, showing a young couple about to say their vows what they will look like as they age over 60 years with incredibly life-like makeup and prosthetics. While the physical transformation is mesmerizing, the real effect of the video is in watching the couple fall in love over and over again as they imagine growing old together. Get your tissues ready… I dare you not to shed tears over this one.

A group on YouTube called FieldDay gives this cute young couple an extreme makeover, aging them from their 20’s, to their 50’s, to their 70’s, and into their 90’s. The emotional changes these two go through seeing each other in these different age states is BEAUTIFUL. And the stereotypes that they discuss and imagine their lives will entail at each age is insightful and funny! Both partners are entertained about how the male ages less gracefully along the way (his eyebrows are quite entertaining.) It is also very interesting how seeing each other at different ages causes them to even imagine stories that may happen in their lives along the way.

These are real people, experiencing real emotions, about imaginary aging. And their thoughts about their last words to each other will warm your heart and break it at the same time. Prepare yourself. Don’t say I didn’t tell you to bring tissues.

This is one of my favorite things I have seen on the internet lately. In a digital world filled with screaming goats, laser cats, and Kardashians, it’s refreshing to find something insightful, beautiful, and thought provoking.

How to Introduce A Sex Toy Into Your Relationship

Communicate with your partner about your ideas and desires.

Communication is the most essential part of any relationship. Any issue involving intimacy should be discussed openly to maximize closeness and understanding with your partner. Your interests and desires in the bedroom are no exception. Don’t be afraid to express what turns you on. Don’t hesitate to express your hesitancy with any subject, either. It can be a little intimidating talking to your partner about it for the first time. Try making it part of your “pillow talk”, and start with a statement like “I think it would be really sexy if…”

Proof that Spooning Improves Relationships

Never underestimate the power of touch! Cuddling, massages, hand-holding…we girls just can’t seem to get enough! Guys too, although they may not be as quick to admit it. But does loving physical contact after sex actually improve a relationship? And can you actually prove this correlation? Science says YES, and I say HOORAY, SCIENCE!

Some recent research at the University of Toronto Mississauga shows that a little post-nooky spooning can help improve your relationship. The study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, shows that “kissing, caressing, and loving talk” after intercourse are all associated with greater sexual and relationship satisfaction.

Kat Van Kirk, Ph.D., a licensed marriage and sex therapist, says that the chemical oxytocin is likely the main driver behind this phenomenon. Oxytocin is often referred to as the “love hormone”; it’s released as a result of pleasurable physical contact and has been shown to increase bonding. Staying physically close after sex can also act as a form of nonverbal communication. “It can help you relax, inhibit any sensations of pain—emotional or physical—and help reinforce to your partner that you are invested and committed to them,” says Van Kirk.

Other benefits include the simple fact that closeness can lead to more sex. “Cuddling can help keep you aroused for another roll in the hay,” says Van Kirk.

The study had some interesting results regarding who benefits the most from post-sex cuddling. Couples with children has the biggest results, likely because of limited time for cuddling with each other during the day. Women, in general, exhibited a larger benefit than me in the study, though men did report a noticeable improvement in their relationships and sex lives, too.

So you’re probably wondering. What it the perfect amount of time to snuggle with your partner? Aim for more than 15 minutes—that’s what the people in the study who said they were happiest with their relationships did. Personally, I think that 15 minutes is simply not long enough, but hey, science, amiright?
